Open Watcom ForTran (WatFor)

Interim Distribution Page

My Mission Statement

Watcom has been Open source 2 years now and quiet literally NOTHING has been done on the ForTran part as far as bringing the ForTran Compiler up to Current Standards.  I see a need to start helping.

    1)   To maintain Open Watcom ForTran (WatFor) compatibility with all existing Watcom Source Code.

    2)   To update Open Watcom to ForTran 90, ForTran 95, and ForTran 2003 (F90/F95/F02) Standards.

    3)   To make Open Watcom ForTran the ForTran compiler "of choice", on all supported OS's.

    4)   To help enhance Open Watcom C/C++ Make Open Watcom the Platform "of choice" for development.

I don't call myself a ForTran Programmer, but I have many years of C and a few years of C++.  Some Assembler (6800, 6502/10, 80x86). If you want to know my background, please look at My "Not Up To Date" Resume`. I currently work at SilverLeaf Electronics Inc. and do Phone Support, Programming in 8051 Embedded C, 80x86 Embedded C and C++, and Testing of our products. I also do COBOL.

Traditionally, Fortran was spelled ForTran, or FORTRAN, and the original Watcom compiler was just ForTran and called WatFor, I hold on to the spelling of ForTran and WatFor, for nostalgic reasons.
For a little history on WatFor, please see this link at University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada
